GI-MAP + Zonulin (Microbial Assay Plus) Lab Test (Includes lab interpretation and 30 minute consult)

This test is comprehensive, including Zonulin. If you want to have the test without Zonulin, choose the GI-MAP without Zonulin. Zonulin is a marker of leaky gut syndrome, to see if there is gap junction damage in the small intestine.

The GI-MAP (Microbial Assay Plus) is unique in the field of comprehensive stool testing. It relies exclusively on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology to detect parasites, pathogenic bacteria, imbalances in bacteria/flora, fungi such as Candida, and more, by targeting the specific DNA of the organisms tested.

This measures pathogenic organisms that are known to cause hospital-acquired infections (HAI) (such as C. difficile or norovirus), foodborne illnesses (such as E. coli or Salmonella), and common causes of diarrhea (such as CampylobacterShigella, and rotavirus A). This panel measures viral causes of gastroenteritis unavailable by other common stool tests, as well as parasites such as CryptosporidiumGiardia, and Entamoeba histolytica.  Helicobacter pylori and its virulence factors and antibiotic resistance genes are also included.

Also measured are Digestion markers and Inflammatory markers.

Research overwhelmingly indicates that gut health impacts overall health. The gut microbiome, in particular, plays a critical role in mediating the effects of diet and other factors on health, including digestive, immune, metabolic and neuroendocrine functions. Assessing GI health with the proper tools can help practitioners get to the root cause of chronic illness.
